About Grama Design
Grama Design, a family owned company since 2002From small watering can to extra large, handmade clay pots
In 2002, Anette Gram founded the wholesale company, Grama Design.
And it all actually started with a small zinc watering can. Still a long way to go to the sustainable production of handmade clay pots from Vietnam, which Grama Design is known for today in large parts of Scandinavia.
Anette had found this amazing product – her zinc watering can – which she was convinced could sell well in the Danish market. The story goes that Anette packed her car, threw a few watering cans in the back, and set out to sell her watering can. And she did – with great success. There were many people who wanted to buy her watering can. But it would take a lot of watering cans to make it a livelihood. And that’s how the dream of starting Grama Design began.
The dream of unique pots takes shape
Anette now had a loyal customer base but lacked a larger selection of quality products to sell.
Naturally, for Anette, she had to follow her creative passion – ceramics. And since she has always loved her garden and gardening, it was natural to start looking at the market for garden pots.
It quickly became clear that Anette had to go to Vietnam, where they have been engaged in pot production and excellent craftsmanship for generations.
Over 20 years of strong collaboration in Vietnam
The journey to Vietnam became a turning point for Grama Design, which now employs 65 full-time workers at Vietnamese potteries.
For over 20 years, the entire Gram family has made the trip to the production sites in Vietnam, where new and exciting products for the upcoming season are selected and designed.
Danish design and Vietnamese craftsmanship
Vietnamese garden pots are known for their quality, and the design is naturally influenced by Vietnamese culture and style, with plenty of intricate details and lion heads, etc.
To embrace the Nordic and more minimalist style, Grama Design designs many of its pots ourselves.
The Nordic style with simple, clean lines combined with the excellent Vietnamese craftsmanship and a focus on quality makes Grama Design’s products unique.
At the same time, the Vietnamese productions prioritise another top priority value at Grama Design, namely sustainability.
Family-run business
Grama Design is now a fast moving import and export company.
The company’s long-term focus on sustainable quality products tailored to the Nordic style has led to great success in the Scandinavian markets. In particular, Grama Design is one of the few suppliers in the Nordic region offering sustainable quality pots in large sizes.
In 2022, Grama Design proudly won the prestigious award, Børsens Gazelle Prize, given to companies, which, amongst other things, experience great growth in revenue (gross profit) for a least 4 years in a row.
Successful generational transition
Since 2015, the family’s eldest daughter, Trine Gram Dalby, has been a co-owner, and in 2022, Trine took over as CEO and majority shareholder.
Former CEO Anette is now retired but remains on the board and, along with her husband, continues to enjoy their everyday life at the office and the calming surroundings of the showroom.
